Archbishop’s Dinner festivities focused on “Saints: Called and Chosen” on All Saints Day at St. Andrew’s School, High Prairie.
“If you are not becoming a saint, then what the heck are you?” said Archbishop Pettipas. Gerard Pettipas, archbishop of Grouard-McLennan, spoke extensively about four saints: Martin of Tours, Francis Xavier, Keteri Tekawitha, and Gianna Beratta Molla. The archbishop reminded that all baptized Christians are called to holiness- to become saints.
Slave Lake Deanery of the Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan hosted the third annual Archbishop’s Dinner at High Prairie on November 1.
“Their life is not all about them,” Archbishop Pettipas said about saints. The organizes requested the archbishop to speak about saints.
Each dinner table had a placard with a specific name of a saint. The evening witnessed about two hundred people from far of places, including seven priests. At the end of the dinner, every participant was handed a virtue card with ideas to practice it to become saints.
Archbishop Pettipas introduced Father Lawerence Odoemena as the new pastor of High Prairie as of November 1, replacing Father George Okoye. Father George will be serving in the diocese of Pembroke, Ontario. The archbishop said that Father Lawerence intends to serve in the archdiocese as an incardinated priest “for his entire life.”
Archbishop Pettipas offered special gratitude to Cathy Dusterhoft from High Prairie. Archbishop told that Cathy enthusiastically said, “We host it in High Prairie” at the Deanery Council planning meeting.
